Can I pay on a Hague bus without an OV ChipKaart

Seems that things have changed transportation wise since I spent time in the Netherlands. I was thinking that I'd simply get a pocket full of Euro coins and use public transit at my leisure. I need to take bus #28 from the Mauritskade stop to Den Haag Central, where I'll take the train to Leiden.

So, can I use some other form of payment on a local bus?

Can I get a ticket that will also cover the train to Leiden, or must that be purchased at the station?

The round trip to Leiden will likely be my only use of public transportation, so buying an OV ChipKaart does not make sense.

When I lived in Germany (I was in the U.S. Army) they had ticket machines at each bus stop. You simply bought your ticket, put it in your pocket and boarded the bus when it arrived. You never had to show it unless a "Controller" was doing a spot check and they would usually only ask American G.I.s. :)

It’s an easy 1 mile walk from the Mauritskade to the central train station. You can take the bus of course, but you will need to buy a €4 ticket. You can buy the ticket from the bus driver: pay with a debit card (Dutch or most European cards) or a credit card (Visa, Mastercard).

Trains and busses are not operated by the same companies, so there isn’t 1 single ticket that includes the bus in The Hague and train to Leiden. Train tickets can be bought at the train station. If you want to safe €1, you can buy your ticket online at https://www.ns.nl/en

Thanks Dutch_traveler! From our hotel it is 1.1 miles which isn't a big deal, but we are in our 70's and will be doing a walking tour the day before and then all the walking once we get to Keukenhof. So, I figured a bus would be helpful to the station. Although I left it up to my DW and she agreed that it wasn't worth the 4 euro price P/P each way. Besides it will give us a chance to go by Escher since that museum will be closed on Monday when we do our walking tour.
