Is it possible to buy the Museum pass and the Amsterdam tram passes at the airport or is it necessary to wait until we get into town (via train to centraal station) ? Thanks

The various museums passes can be purchased at the TI office in the public area of the terminal. I'm not 100% certain but I believe they also sell you a tram pass. If not, they are easily purchased aboard the trams.

If you don't have a PIN&chip credit card, you'll need cash, so hit the ATM right away. At least that is the way it is at the TI outside Amsterdam Centraal.

Many thanks for all the replies. We have chip and pin cards that worked in France...at least in restaurants but have never tried it in machines. We usually operate with more cash than at home...viva the money belt. Assume the major banks have ATMs at the airport.
