I just found out that you can buy a ticket for the train online. Has anyone done this before without hassle? That way I wouldnt have to go to the kiosks to buy my tickets, I would already have them.
I used an E-ticket a few weeks ago and just had the print with me so the ticket inspector can scan it. No need to check in or out like you have to do with the Dutch OV-card, so actually no hassle at all. Be prepaired to show your ID card if needed.
I bought tickets online for my trip to Amsterdam last month. It worked great! It was definitely nice to have them ahead of time. I bought it here: https://www.b-europe.com/Travel
It will say to print on A4 paper, but 8 1/2 x 11 works just fine.
Note that the home-print tickets purchased this way (through Belgian rail!) are valid for "any conventional train" on the date selected; they cannot be used on another calendar day nor on Thalys high-speed and cannot be exchanged at the station.
Dawn is right. If you want to buy domestic train tickets online and you don't have a Dutch bank account, you have to use the Belgian Rail site to do it--but it works just fine.
I saw a YouTube video that showed a person scanning the ticket before going down an escalator. Do I not have to do that with a ticket bought at a kiosk or a home printed ticket?
And are you saying I have to go to o another website to buy the ticket since I am in the US? the one listed above? I looked at it and it wants me to pick a time for the ticket. does that mean i can only travel on the specific train time? or can i use it any part of the day?
