One problem I had in the Netherlands was buying a train ticket using the NS app. For some reason, it would not allow me to pay with a credit card - the only option to pay was using Ideal, which of course, I did not have. It was very frustrating so I finally started buying the tickets using the NS website on my phone browser. It's set up the same way but in addition to Ideal, it also offered a credit card option.
Very strange - I spoke to a woman at the GBV kiost at Centraal and she had no clue as to why it did not offer the cc option on the app. But like I said, it was easy to use the mobile browser to order and pay. Just wondered if anyone else had this problem.
