Bike rental in Leiden for a ride through the flower fields

I am trying to see if anyone has rental bikes in Leiden to just bike the tulip/bulb/flower fields around and near Leiden. I don’t want to go to Keukenhof during this ride, just the countryside. I am planning this for around 19 or 20 of April. Any suggestions would be great. Thank you,

There is a bicycle rental at the railway station and at least two in the city centre: one on the Breestraat (10 mins walk from the station) and another on the Hogewoerd (15 to 20 mins walk). They all might want deposit and/or your passport as a security.

Be aware that you'll be there during Flower Parade week. The parade is actually on Saturday the 21st. I hope you'll make time to see it.

This related traffic info might affect your plans. We drove through the fields after the parade was over. Some roads were blocked for cars, but may have been open for cyclists. I didn't notice. I did notice the large group of antique American cars being driven through, though.

I've seen the parade twice and loved every minute. Both times I had a car and parked it in Sassenheim close to Hoofdstraat (parade route) on or near to Zuiderstraat (side street to the Sports Complex) before the roads closed. Then I stood to watch the floats and bands and yes, twirlers, go by.

It's not crowded in that area. There are bus stops and the buses stop running when needed. I'm sure any of the route before you get too close to Lisse would be great for viewing and smelling. The hyacinths on the floats are intoxicating.

Here is a link to bicycle rentals right outside Keukenhof. Edited to add: I know you want to rent in Leiden, but if you click on the routes in the link, you'll get a map of them and the time needed to bike them -- from Keukenhof.

Don't be surprised if the tulips aren't blooming when you explore the fields. If the weather's been cold, they won't be, but other bulb flowers will.

You might have other questions that may be answered by these FAQs. You might also like to see pictures of driving from Leiden to Keukenhof and back. We always take the back roads.

Keep an eye on the weather when you are packing. The last time I was there was in mid-April, 2013. It was sunny, but very cold and somewhat windy.

Lo, thank you for all your information. I will not be the area for the parade but that would be wonderful to see. I have been watching the weather in and around Amsterdam and seems to be the same as we are having in northern Illinois. Cool! We even had snow about 40 miles south of us today. I am actually going to Keukenhof gardens near the end of April. I am trying to have several plans for my pre tour days. I am going to be watching the weather very closely. I was able to open the Rent a Bike pamplet to get a better idea of potential biking areas. Thank you again.
