Hello:
I will arrive in The Netherlands by train from Germany in the first week of June. I would like to spend about a week in NL, with the primary daytime activity being exploring by bicycle if the weather cooperates. The fietspad /fietsroutes system fascinates me. My thought is perhaps three nights in the eastern NL, and then moving to another base in south central.
Alas most of what I have found online refers to multi-day cycle touring rather than simply taking day rides from various towns.
1). Can you suggest one or two towns to base in (with accommodation price points lower than Amsterdam and Utrecht!) from which I could take interesting daily rides?
2) what are some of your favorite rides (20-40km)? If possible I prefer not to be right on the sea coast and battling winds!
Of course, one option is to base in town X, and then take a train to town Y to rent a bicycle and have the day’s ride.
Finally, I can also fold Belgium into this mix and extend to 10 days as I am not due in the UK until mid-June.
Thank you!
