Hello, we will be staying for one week in Leiden, Holland May 2027. What is the best way to get from Leiden to Stuttgart. We just need to go one way, as we will fly home from Stuttgart.
You can download the NS International app for train schedules. Have a great trip,
According to Bahn.de, the train route with the fewest changes (2) takes 5hours,45 minutes with changes in Arnheim and Dusseldorf.
Or you could fly with KLM in less than an hour, five flights per day.

Thanks everyone. It looks like we’re gonna do the Quick flight with KLM. I really appreciate everybody’s input here.
The flight will not be substantially faster if you add in the time to travel to/from airport and the additional friction. It will probably be more expensive too. And the train goes every 2 hours…
I agree with Wengen. I would take the train. When you consider the wait time before flying, dealing with luggage restrictions, at least more so than the train, and the additional expense, a 5-hour train trip is a no-brainer. I'd take the train in a heartbeat. Plus, airports are usually out of the city center, which means that you then have to pay for transportation to get there and back again. At the most, you might save an hour or two, but in the long run, the stress of flying will not be worth it in my opinion.
Keep in mind that you'll be able to relax more, you only have to be at the station about 15 to 20 minutes ahead of time, you can bring whatever you want to do while you're relaxing in your seat or look at the scenery as you go by. I honestly don't think there is any disadvantage to taking the train. I've traveled through both the Netherlands and Germany a lot by train. Their trains are very comfortable. Plus, you can get food and drink on board and the food will be much better than airline food. 😊
I actually consider traveling by train to be part of the travel experience.
Another vote for WengenK's suggestion. Sometimes people look at flight times and underestimate how long that trip really takes start to finish. Plus, trains are just fun and less stressful.
