Bed & Breakfast Amsterdam

Well we just decided to take our first cruise in 2 years. We are cruising from Amsterdam on a British Isles cruise on September 1st. We have never visited Amsterdam, and plan to be there a couple of days before we cruise. First and foremost , we would appreciate a good recommendation for a 2 night stay. A comfortable, mid priced accommodation , a desirable location, just a good value. A bed & breakfast might be nice. I would be open to any suggestions regarding Amsterdam such as restaurants, tours, safety tips, and must sees. I know we want to do a canal tour, windmill tour, and the tulips. I'm sure there must be so much more. I'll appreciate any input. Thank you. Phil J

I will start by copying what I wrote earlier in another topic about hotels.
If you look at a map of Amsterdam you will see a horseshoe or U shaped area with lots of waterways. That’s the Canal Zone. Just south of the bottom of the U is the museum square where the Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh museum and Stedelijk museum are located. At the top of the U is the central train station. Basically everywhere in the Canal Zone and near the museums is a good place to stay. Cafes, restaurants and shops can be found all over that area. If your main goal is to visit the museums, you might want to stay closer towards the south of the Canal Zone. If you plan to take a lot of day trips by train, you might want to stay closer to the central train station. But then again, the city center of Amsterdam is compact and walkable. It’s only a 30 minute, 2.5 km walk from the central train station at the top of the U/horseshoe to the Rijksmuseum at the bottom of the U/horseshoe.
If you want specific hotel advice, you should post your budget in €’s or $’s. Phrases like “mid priced” and “good value” mean different things to different people.

As far as things to see, the website of the Amsterdam tourist office gives some pretty good tips https://www.iamsterdam.com/en
If you want specific advice, please share your interests. There is no point in recommending the Rijksmuseum if you’re not into art.
With regards to the tulips. Tulips are spring flowers, they bloom from mid April to early May. There won’t be any tulips in September.

Thanks so much for that reply. Lots of excellent information and I will share that with the other couple we are traveling with.
