August weather in Delft,Leiden, Amsterdam

I checked the weather for July & August for 2022, 2023, 2024. I do not like hot or too warm temperatures, especially with humidity. Over 70° F is getting too hot for walking around a lot comfortably. Should I wait until October to visit Amsterdam, Delft, Leiden? Or will August be ok? It looks like the temps could be 90°F or upper 60s F? I loved the cool weather in Edinburgh in August, for example. Looking for personal experiences.

No one can predict with anything more than a WAG what the weather will be like 4 or 5 months from now. Daily AVERAGE highs are no more than 22°C (less than 72°F). In any event, it could just as easily be unseasonably cool or hot. Of course October will be somewhat (or a lot, or not) cooler. But the days will be a lot shorter as well.

CJean: I am absolutely not asking anyone to predict the weather. Your response is quite rude. I am simply asking for people’s experiences during August.

Well alrighty then. While we wait for some of the Dutch forum members, I can comment on the 3 summer trips we had in the Netherlands. All were pre Covid. Our first was during a record breaking (at the time) heatwave that lasted several days with temps around 30°. Our other trips had much milder temps in the low 20s, and I don't recall any particularly humid days, except for the couple of rainy days we had. How this year will be....

It's a good idea to look at the actual, historical, day-by-day weather data on the website timeanddate.com to see the range of conditions you may experience during your chosen travel period. I like to check the most recent five years, because things can vary a lot from year to year.

Amsterdam weather -- August 2024

Delft weather -- August 2024

Leiden weather -- August 2024

The three cities are quite close together, Delft being less than 40 miles from Amsterdam and Leiden closer, so I wouldn't expect the climate to vary much. Although I've given you links to data for all three cities, I think you can just look at Amsterdam.

For precipitation, I usually look at the monthly averages included in the climate-summary charts in Wikipedia's entries for cities. Wikipedia has that chart for Amsterdam but not for the other two cities.

Looking at my photos from last year at that time, I'm in short pants and short sleeve shirts during the day. Only on rides along the seashore did I wear a very light jacket, and that was as much for sun protection as wind chill.

IOW - I'm thinking much warmer than 70°F, but to me, it was ideal outside temps but we did choose shaded seating for some outdoor eating.

For those cooler temps, that's closer to our visit a couple years ago in MAY. Those photos have me wearing a jacket more often, so definitely in that cooler range you are more comfortable in.

Maybe consider the Spring (or even Fall) for temps closer to the range you want.

The spring is typically considerably drier than the fall. But again, it can vary a lot. That's why I prefer to look at a whole bunch of data.

As someone who gets energy from sunlight, I like traveling when the days are longer. Unlike the weather, the length of the days doesn't change from one year to the next.

We were in the country spring, 2024. Our tour guides in both Amsterdam and Haarlem reported that the summers have recently become uncomfortably hot. And- you have the summer crowds.
Hope this helps.
PS
I thought CJean's response was objective and fair.
