Dear fellow travelers,
My husband and I will be only for one and a half day in Amsterdam at the end of June. The travel agent that we used to book a cruise recommended the hotel Sir Albert which is located in the PIJP neighborhood. We have never been in Amsterdam so I would like to know if any of you are familiar with the PIJP area. Because our time is limited, we decided to visit the Anne Frank's House, take a canal boat tour and juts wonder around.
So, how far is the PIJP area from the main attractions?
Knowing that we were there only for one day and a half would it be worthy to be in that area vs the city center?
I would appreciate any suggestions.
Thanks
Blanca
How very odd that a TA would book you into a cruise and a pre embarkation hotel that far from the cruise port. Of course it's not THAT far by taxi, but still.... you are outside of the main tourist areas.(although not that far from a couple of the museums) There are several hotels frequented by cruisers between A'dam Centraal and the cruise terminal. I've seen the Movenpick, Doubletree and Amrath mentioned a few times on Cruise Critic. If you do Marriott points, the Renaissance is very central.
If you go to Google maps you can see what your distances are between your hotel and the places you want to visit. Going to street view, you can get a good idea of what the streets around your hotel look like.
I would not stay that far out, especially if you only have 1.5 days. You can find something much more centralized. Try looking in the Jordaan neighborhood sine that's where Anne Frank's house is.
The neighborhood the Pijp (no capital letters) is a lovely neighborhood, home to the famous Albert Cuyp market. However if you’re only in town for 1.5 days before a cruise and want to visit the Anne Frank house, it’s not an ideal place to stay. I would suggest to either stay close to the cruise terminal or to stay closer to the Anne Frank house.
Tickets for the Anne Frank house sell out fast, you need to buy them as soon as they become available. Tickets for June are released on May 3. More info here; https://www.annefrank.org/en/museum/tickets/
