Hi All,
My partner and I, 2 x 60 year olds from Australia, are traveling through the Netherlands and Belgium in mid to late April.
We arrive in Amsterdam from a river cruise, and have 8 nights before we fly out of Amsterdam to return to Australia.
I am looking at 3 nights in Amsterdam, then 2 nights in Sassenheim as we are going to be there for the festival and would like to see the night parade and the gardens on the 19th. Then travelling early on the 21st of April to Belgium. 3 nights in Belgium before we travel back to Amsterdam for a 10pm flight back home.
The plan was originally trains everywhere, but now considering hiring a car as we leave Amsterdam and returning it to the airport as we depart. Due to public transport in the region where the parade is i.e to get to Keukenhof on the 19th and travel around the region before heading for Belgium. Appears to be no trains and not sure if there are other manageable forms of public transport?
I was also wanting to book grandstand seats in Sassenheim but don't seem to be able to do that?
The only accommodation at a reasonable price that was still available was in Sassenheim and it include parking.
Thoughts and advice would be appreciated,
thank you
You say there seem to be no trains, but from where to where? As far as I know no trains go right to the Keukenhof gardens. When you buy tickets, you can buy the bus shuttle from various starting points - the airport, central Amsterdam or Harlem as I recall.
I can't believe there will be any day in the Netherlands where no trains are running. Sometimes you can be looking too early to buy a ticket.
