ARNHEM War Museum

Does anyone have any experience at the Arnhem War Museum? The concept sounds great but the pictures look a little suspect. We will be in Arnhem in late April.

No experience, but I did go to the Airborne Museum in Arnhem (Airbornemuseum Hartenstein) last March. It is in the house that was used by the British as an aide station and central rallying point in their failed attempt to take the Arnhem Bridge. It was also used in the movie "A Bridge Too Far." I thought it was very well done and obviously focused on this part of Operation Market Garden.

Back in 1982, I visited Arnhem and found the museum located at the house that was the HQ for the British Airborne unit that landed there. It was pictured in the movie "Bridge to Far."

It is not downtown, but a little away from the city. I found it worthwhile.

The Arnhem museum has lots of history on display, some with special effects. If you diligently look at all the old photos, you can find a picture of the young woman who would become Audrey Hepburn. She was the daughter of a Belgian aristocrat who moved the family in hopes the Netherlands would remain neutral, as it had in WWI. Or so the local history says. Didn't work out; Arnhem was fought over twice.
