Amsterdam with toddler

We are going to be in Amsterdam the beginning of June with our almost 3-year-old and eight-month-old. We're just starting to plan the details of our trip and are looking for the following advice:

  1. What neighborhood is the best to stay in? We've heard good things about Jordann but wondering if it's also good with young kids (any parks nearby?)

  2. Best day trips to nearby towns?

  3. Looking into the pancake breakfast canal cruise which I think my daughter would love - any specific advice/days? Do we need to book in advance?

  4. Renting bikes- is it easy to rent bikes that kids can ride in? We've seen ones that almost look like a wheelbarrow in front & wondering if that's an option for kids to ride together? No idea what it's called though & if you can rent those bikes as well...

  5. Overall ideas/tips for fun activities with young kids?!

We know this trip will be very different than our previous European travels but can't wait to make new family memories & planning to go with the flow as much as possible! Thanks!

Megan,

This article from The Guardian is perfect timing for some of your questions:

Also, even big kids (44 year olds😀) like Madurodam, near The Hague. It is a miniature park of 1:25 scale model replicas of famous Dutch landmarks and cities. We biked there from Delft. Continue on to Scheveningen, the Dutch Coney Island if you are lucky and experience blue skies.
