Amsterdam Travel Pass for Almere Haven Stay

Hi all,

My stay is arranged at Almere Haven for 3 days. I wonder which travel pass would be suitable for me for an unlimited travel all these 3 days.

Thank you

Oh dear, the person who arranged for you to stay in Almere Haven must either not like you very much or doesn’t know anything about the area. Almere is one of the least attractive and dare I even say outright ugly places in the Netherlands.
Anyway, to get out of Almere and into Amsterdam the Amsterdam and Region Travel Ticket could come in handy;

Thank you very much for your reply.

Now I am more concerned about Almere. I selected this place because it's much economical stay than Amsterdam. Can you please tell more about the problems about Almere? I am more concerned about the safety part.

I didn’t say that Almere isn’t safe. It’s just that Almere is easily one of the most ugliest places in the Netherlands. It’s a newly built city that lacks any form of charm or quaintness.
But most importantly, unlike other parts of Almere, Almere Haven doesn’t have a train station. This means that you would have to take the bus to get anywhere. This bus however only goes as far as the outskirts of Amsterdam. So you will have to take another bus, tram, train or subway to get to places in the city center like the Rijksmuseum or the Van Gogh museum or the Anne Frank house for instance. A trip from Almere Haven to the Rijksmuseum for instance takes at least 75 minutes with multiple transfers.
This is also why your hotel is cheaper; Almere Haven is a really inconvenient place to stay if you plan to visit Amsterdam.

I understand that hotels in Amsterdam are expensive, but there are more convenient places to stay if you want to save on hotels. Please let us know if you want help with finding a more convenient place to stay.

Ok I understood. Can you suggest couple of places near to Amsterdam which are safe, cheaper as well as reflect Dutch charm?

You could look into staying in cities like Haarlem, Leiden or Utrecht. But wherever you decide, make sure that you book a place close to a train station or a direct bus into Amsterdam city center or else you’ll lose a lot of time traveling from and to your hotel. Use Google maps to see where your hotel is located and to help you plan public transport.

I agree about Almere in general and the remoteness of Haven.

When I want inexpensive in that area I stay in Almere Buiten, even more soulless, but with the twin conveniences of a Holiday Inn Express, usually less expensive than other nearby HIE properties but it is immediately adjacent to the Almere Buiten NS station and a nearly free city car parking structure just across the bus lane. For me, and with our medical need for the car, it works well.

It does, given how close it is as the crow flies to Amsterdam, take an absolute age for the train into Amsterdam. We tend to go to nearby Hilversum for amenities.

Thank you all for your valuable suggestions.

I found an economical airbnb at Hilversum. The train station is 15 min walk from the apartment. Is it a safe area?

Almere is not that bad. For a new town it is pretty good even, and in Almere Haven they even managed to give the place a real town centre, with a market square etc...

But yes, do not expect any Dutch quaintness. The town is only about 50 years old.

You didn’t mention where exactly in Hilversum you plan to stay, but in general Hilversum is a nice and safe place to stay.
The Amsterdam Region Travel Ticket that was recommended to you earlier is also valid for trips from Amsterdam to Hilversum and back.

one handy thing about the address in Hilversum - I haven't looked at the street - I see that there is bus stop almost at the house, it has the number 1 bus which is 4 times an hour and the hourly 121 which both go to and terminate at the station.

Very convenient
