Rather than take a river cruise optional, aka extra cost, excursion from Amsterdam to Zaanse Schans, I've been researching ways to visit there on our own. I've easily found information on taking the train or bus to get there but have been stymied trying to find details on how to take the ferry there. I've found that the ferry trip is a 90-minute journey including a transfer, but that's all the info I have. We'd probably only use it one way and return via another.
Could a forum user please direct me to the website for this ferry and provide any additional information we might require? Thanks
The ferry has a website - https://www.zaanferry.com - but it's empty of data at the moment. You could try their Facebook page and send them a message - https://www.facebook.com/Zaanferry It also has some info that might be helpful from a pinned post from April of 2022.
If the ferry is still active, which is not a given, you could also ask at Amsterdam Central Station, which is where the ferry would be leaving from. Worst case, you can take the train. :)
I don't have any transportation suggestions for you; however, before my Netherlands trip last March, forum members advised me to skip it - that I'd be disappointed. I ignored the advice and scheduled a half-day tour there and a small fishing village. It was my least favorite activity in my 7 days in the Netherlands. I don't know what other activities you have scheduled in the area, but a short train ride to Haarlem (or a bit farther to Delft) would be so much nicer. Just my two cents :)
I loved Zaanse Schans, but don't know about the ferry. We took the train, so I don't have personal experience to share.
This seems to be the official website, but all it says there is: "Information about the Zaanferry will be posted here soon," which isn't very helpful.

The reason why you can’t find any more information about the ferry to Zaanse Schans is because it stopped running. So it’s either bus or train.
Zaanse Schans was our least favorite place we visited in The Netherlands. Visit the authentic
windmills at Kinderdijk instead.
