I've got two night booked in Edam and I'll be coming from Amsterdam by bus.
Rick suggests a day trip to Edam...see Edam... then on to Volendam and ferry to Marken. Then he says to return to Amsterdam from Marken. I'm thinking of doing this in reverse... going to Marken first (from Amsterdam) by bus, then ferry to Volendam and short bus ride to Edam. Does that make sense since I'm staying in Edam? Or should I go straight to Edam first. If so, I would rent a bike and bring it on the ferry to Marken. How useful is a bicycle in Marken? Doesn't seem like you can rent a bike there. The only advantage to going to Edam first seems to be that I could rent a bike.
I would like to get all this done on the first day (Edam/Volendam/Marken) if possible because the next day I'm planning to go up to Enkhuizen to see the open air museum. I could spend a third day in the area, as I'm returning to Amsterdam that day and there's no need to get back early. Wondering what the best plan is for these 3 days/2 nights in Edam? End of April/early May. thanks.
Perhaps you can use the 10€ all day bus ticket to connect your cities. We toured all 3 from Amsterdam before Covid and it seems like they still have this nice bus route available. We bought our ticket at the bus area behind Amsterdam Centraal. EDIT: The little footpaths and bridges on Marken are in such a compact area I don’t think it would be worthwhile to have a bicycle there. It was all very easy to explore by foot.
Hi Mona - thanks very much for that link. Very helpful. I think if I go to Edam first, the all day ticket makes sense. But from what you say, I don't really need a bike on Marken, so maybe I'll go to Marken first. Thanks again.
Don I just noticed the number 2015 in the URL for the pdf. There is a chance this isn’t an offer now in 2023 but I’ll do some more checking.
Don, I think it’s still an offer but the price on the localbus website says it’s 12,50€ now. https://localbus.nl/
