Amsterdam & surrounding area with toddler & baby

We are planning a Europe trip for next May. We tentatively plan to start our trip in Amsterdam & would arrive mid-May. Our daughters will be 2.5 and 8 months. We're looking for suggestions of kid friendly activities and easy day trips. At this point our plans are wide open. Would like to stay in one location for approximately a week so central location for easy day trips are important. On previous Europe trips we've enjoyed smaller towns more than large cities & know we won't be spending a lot of time in museums with the kiddos. Outdoor activities would be ideal! Thank you!

A great day outside would be at Keukenhof for the most amazing tulips and flowers. It is only open in the spring, next year until May 21st.

It is easy to get to from Amsterdam or a variety of nearby towns. We stayed in Lisse within walking distance.

My kids were older when we went but they loved the canal boat rides around the city, if you are comfortable cycling with kid seats you may be able to rent bikes and ride out of the city along the canals to windmills and smaller towns. In the city can be fun riding too but can be a bit crazy if you are not that comfortable on a bike. Our kids liked the Saturday market in Haarlem, trying treats etc...We also went to Vondelpark where they could run around on grass.
