We will have a stopover in Amsterdam on December 20 this year-- 12 hours long. Will there be a Christmas Market or Christmas Square in operation that day? If so, where, and what hours? We'll need to head back to the airport by 7. Will there be any special holiday goings on in the city that day? We won't have time to take the nighttime Christmas Canal tour that starts at 6. It should be dark by 4:30, though, so I'm thinking we could take the last regular canal tour and see the Christmas lights? Can anyone tell me when it starts and which company's tour would enable us to see the most and best of the Christmas lights?
There should be a Christmas market at Museumplein. There was last year. I have not looked for advertisement though, so you should, maybe on Iamsterdam. Tram 2 will get you there from Centraal. We enjoyed the Light Festival canal cruise with ThoseDamBoatGuys. They served gluhwein and there was plenty of room at the back of the boat to slip outside to see the lights or have a smoke. Or you can catch a regular canal cruise. They all follow the same route for the light festival so it doesn't matter which one you choose.
Thanks, Nance! What was the Christmas Market at Museumplein like? The Canal Tour sounds wonderful! Do you think I need to buy tickets in advance? Could they sell out before we get there?
