Amsterdam Noord

I searched through several posts and found them to be quite informational but not quite what I'm looking for. I plan to travel to Amsterdam and Belgium mid April. Needless to say, I'm shocked to see how expensive Amsterdam has become since my last trip several years ago. My original plan was to stay in Haarlem for three nights but after reading a few posts, perhaps it might be worth spending a bit more money to stay in Amsterdam. This is due to the time and the cost of the round trip train tickets. After all, time is money, right? I'm hearing a lot of buzz on Amsterdam Noord, which might be a great alternative. Does anyone have any hostel, B&B, or 2 star hotel recommendations for North Amsterdam? I don't need anything fancy but something that is very clean. Thank you in advance for your help! Happy traveling, everyone.

We spent a couple nights at The Sir Adam Hotel. It is part of Marriott now and is more of a hotel for hip, youngsters. It has a music themed decor with a dance club on the ground floor. The hotel is perfectly fine (and surprisingly quiet with all the be-bopping going on in the club at night) but we only picked that hotel as it was cheaper than our preferred hotel. The price is in the $150 - $200 range, so not sure what your budget is. For me, North Amsterdam didn’t really do it for me. It was fine, but I prefer the other side of the water (or Haarlem or Delft or Utrecht). There are a few cool bars/restaurants along with a couple interesting artist enclaves, but I didn’t really see what the big deal was. Maybe I simply missed the cool things to see or do over there, but they weren’t readily apparent to me. I will say it is easy (and free) to cross the water to the main portion of Amsterdam.
