Amsterdam: Museumkaart or I Amsterdam City Card

We are 5 adults who will be in the Netherlands in April, staying in Leiden and training into the city. For those of us who want to see the Anne Frank House, Van Gogh Museum, Rijksmuseum, and Dutch Resistance Museum over a period of a week, should we get the Museumkaart or I Amsterdam City Card? Many thanks!

The City Card does not cover Anne Frank or Van Gogh. You would not cover cost for just the Rijks and Resistance even if you went to both in the same day. To cover the cost of the City Card, you would have to do a good number of the sights and activities it covers per eadh 24 hour period you opt for.

The temporary version of the Museumkaart that is available to non-residents would save you money on those 4 museums plus you would be allowed to add one more. However, you would need to read and understand the instructions for a non-resident. I believe it has been discussed previously on this forum if you search. What I remember is that you have to purchase the card in person at one of the museums and then are allowed to use it at a total of 5 of the museums within 30 days. I did not buy it because I had already purchased my Anne Frank tickets online when I learned about the Museumkaart option, and I was not able to figure out how to resolve that.

Very helpful. I found the previous discussion and, as you suggested, it isn't worth it for us to purchase a discount pass. Thank you for your help!

Also with the temporary Museumkaart I believe you can only purchase it in person at a participating museum. If you planned to get one, you'd have to ensure you booked a reservation for a Museumkaart entry at the Anne Frank house ahead of time (make sure you look up the details to do this so you don't miss your window, it will be coming up quickly for an April trip). There is a 1 euro fee to book a Museumkaart ticket, and you'd need to show the pass when you arrive at the house.

If you do get an iAmsterdam card, I believe there are still museums that require booking time slots ahead of time, even with the pass. Given your four museum choices and that you're going in a VERY busy time (tulips) it is likely most efficient to book the tickets for all of them ahead of time and not worry about saving very minimal euros using a pass.
