We will be in Amsterdam during the light festivsl. I am wondering if the canal boat ride is the best way to see the lights or can we just walk. We will be there November 30th.

You can walk, when I was there in December 2016 there was a map showing a walking route. The canal boat went past some of the same installations and some others best seen from the water. If you don’t have a window seat I think the canal ride would be a waste of time.

The canal ride is mostly a waste of time because the installations are almost all at street level, not at water level. So you will be looking always up. Walking is much more fun.

Yes, yes, yes, do the canal boat ride. We did it last winter with ThoseDamBoatGuys and it was great! They have both smoking and non smoking boat tours. As long as that boat tour lasted I would not have wanted to walk the route in the cold and dark.
