My wife and I would like to visit Amsterdam in Sept 23. Long ways off, never been. We would love to see the Amsterdam philharmonic (not sure the exact name) and a major league soccer game (Ajax?). Do any of you Netherlands experts know if these events are in season in September? Will opt for another month if not. Thanks so much RSites!
We were last in Amsterdam in September 2019.
We attended a concert at Concertgebouw. They were featuring Austrian composer Gustav Mahler. Wonderful concert hall. The acoustics were excellent. We purchased our tickets online 2 months before. We stayed in the Museumplein and the concert hall was 5 min. from our accommodation. https://www.concertgebouw.nl/en/
The football season in the Netherlands kicks off in August, so in September there should be football matches at the Johan Cruijff Arena in Amsterdam where Ajax plays their home matches. However the exact schedule won’t be known until (mid?) July. So right now we don’t even know when Ajax will play at home in September 2022, let alone September 2023. Football matches are usually only played once a week and in the weekend. So unless you plan to spend 2 weekends in Amsterdam, you might be out of luck.
You were already given the correct name of the Concertgebouw and the Concertgebouworkest and the website. There should definitely be concerts in September at the Concertgebouw, but it isn’t known when the Concertgebouworkest itself will perform. You can check the September 2022 agenda to get an idea.
Thanks to both for the timely replies and the information! It’s nice when people answer the question asked. Cheers and Happy Travels.
