Amsterdam hotels accessibility for mobility impaired

My wife and I will be spending several nights in Amsterdam during the end of April, and beginning of May 2025. I have great difficulty walking, but I do well on a bike. My wife has no mobility difficulties. Our main activity will be taking an 8 day boat & bike cruise riding by tulips, windmills, and villages. We will be spending 2 nights before, and one after that tour in Amsterdam. I have Rick's Amsterdam & Netherlands book. I am asking you folks for recommendations for a hotel in that book that meets our accessibility needs. The first priority is an elevator, and no more than a few steps. A private bath is essential. We would also need to be as close as possible to a tram line or other public transportation. We are planning on staying in Amsterdam rather than Haarlem to be relatively close to the docks. Other than that the rest would be similar to what most of you would prefer, close to the canals. Thanks for your help.

In July 2023 we stayed at Hotel Jakarta. Bus stop right outside the hotel ( easy ride to Central station)no stairs to enter the hotel. Elevator. Nice rooms with private bath. ( We had a separate tub and a walk in shower) Beautiful indoor pool and affordable spa treatments. They also had bikes available for use, not sure if free or a rental fee as we did not use them.

Happy planning!

You might consider one of the more modern chain hotels. There is an Ibis right near Centraal station, that would put you right in central Amsterdam. There are others, a Kimpton, an NH, etc.

If cost looks a bit much, you can stay near the Sloterdijk train station, a number of chain hotels, a Holiday inn Express for example.

But yeah, have stayed in any number of quaint Dutch hotels that preserved the old staircases that were more like ladders or spiral staircases, after surgery on my knee, those were a challenge.

We've stayed in both the Marriott and the Kimpton DeWitt.

The Marriott is everything you expect from a Marriott property with elevators and easy to navigate rooms. It is near the Rijksmuseum and there are tram lines nearby.

The Kimpton DeWitt is also lovely and has elevators. It is closer to the Centraal train station, the ferries, and likely your cruise embarkation area. It also has a tram just outside. An added bonus - for us - was free hotel loaner bikes. Go to the concierge, check out a couple bikes, and ride all over. It was a huge "bonus" versus renting bikes like we did elsewhere.

Take a look at the Corneliz. We almost stayed there in February as I was coming off of a knee replacement, so was looking for a place with an elevator and ease. This has an elevator, and only I think 2 steps from the sidewalk down into the hotel. There is also a tram stop just a few minutes away.

In the end, we ended up staying at the Estherea. It too has an elevator, and there are about 4 steps up from the sidewalk to enter the hotel. I am unsure about the tram as my knee was good enough that we never took one. We did see trams very close by though, but you would want to check and see of course. This hotel is right on a canal and in a quiet area. We loved it! My daughter found a promo code on their Instagram page which included breakfast for both of us, so that is why we changed our reservation from the Corneliz as this ended up being cheaper with the promo.
