Amsterdam hotel reccommendations in mid September

This is such a great site, I'm hoping with all the wonderful travel experience here, someone can help us with hotels in the area I believe is called the Canal Ring?
We will be getting off a river cruise on September 18th and are looking for hotel reccommendations. We will be there for 5
nights and, based on advice here, plan on staying near musuems, Ann Frank House and not to far (15-20 minutewalk) from the main train station. We want to plan every other day doing a day trip out.
I had a few referrals for wonderful places to stay but they were booked months ago. 4 were reccommended to me but averaged $400- $500 per night. They are Hotel Estherea, The Hoxton , L'Ambaddade and Dikker+Thijs Hotel,. Was hoping for the $250 to $300 range, maybe not possible in this area? Welooked at hotels in Haarlem, very nice but we really want to stay in Amsterdam prope, enjoy evenings there and not have to take the train every day.

I did find this on Booking .com anyone have any experience staying there? It comes in our price range of $300 per night?

Keep checking as people often times cancel their reservations. We stayed at the Hotel Estheréa last month and absolutely loved it! I had another hotel booked first, but then my daughter found a wonderful promo code on their instagram which included breakfast, so it brought the price down by comparison. The breakfast there is very good with tons of options, so we did not need lunches. So just something to keep in mind when comparing hotels.

Perhaps a local will weigh in as to whether there is an event or convention that is driving up prices, but prices in general have been going up. I stayed at Hotel des Artes which shows in Booking.Com as available in that time frame for about $330 per night including breakfast. It was on a main tram line and an easy walk to places. Not fancy by any stretch but comfortable.

Thank you the very prompt reply, One that was highly reccommended to us, I did send an email to them and she said the reservations were return guests and was sure they would not cancel. I did just check Hotel Des Artes, the one room is on the 4th floor called the attic with no photos of the room, except a flight of stairs, has anyone stayed in that room? The next room available for a refundable is close to $2,000, being so far out , I will only book a refundable rate for now.

Thanks again

I stayed at the Owl hotel in early October 2023 in the Leidseplein area. It has an elevator, was under $200 per night last fall, was about a 10 minute walk to Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh, about a 20 min walk to Anne Frank, and maybe a 10 minute tram ride to the central train station. There is a direct bus from the airport to a stop about a block or 2 away. However, I believe it does not have air conditioning -- which wasn't an issue in October. There are some reviews on the RS forum. My single room was small and simple; staff was very helpful.

From September 13 until 16 the IBC convention takes place in Amsterdam. Hotel prices skyrocket during that time as well as before and after the convention.

Try the Holiday Inn Express Amsterdam - Sloterdijk Station. Literally next door to trains, trams, buses to all over. Reasonable prices, good staff and nice breakfast. Stayed May 2013 and really easy to get to airport, Delft etc, Central Station, museums and else where in City or Holland.

I stayed at Herengracht 21 in Amsterdam for 4 nights. Loved every minute of my stay. I had the back house all to myself. Lovely people, great breakfast, absolute best location. I didn't want to leave. It was a bit over my budget but well below yours.

I can only add the prices you are seeing, despite any convention being in town, are pretty typical for the canal ring area. It seems there is always a big event going on in Amsterdam, and when there is not, the town is flooded with people who are going to avoid those big events.

My suggestion is that if you see something on Booking.com, it looks OK, and in your price range, grab it fast. I use Booking almost exclusively, and rarely is a place other than what is represented, and the ratings are pretty accurate.

Monica; you now have 2 topics about a place to stay in Amsterdam in mid September. This one and the one you started a couple of days ago. As you now know, your visit coincides with the IBC convention which causes prices of hotels to skyrocket and availability to plummet.
You need to understand that there really is no point in asking for more recommendations, because people giving recommendations usually don’t check to see if the recommended hotel is available.
What you need to do is follow the advice of Paul;
“ My suggestion is that if you see something on Booking.com, it looks OK, and in your price range, grab it fast.”

I know you didn’t mean to, but you managed to pick one of the worst and most difficult days to find a hotel in Amsterdam. I appreciate it can be daunting to make a booking, especially when you also have to book a room for another couple, but you really can’t afford to wait any longer.

hey hey monica
totally agree with dutch traveler. see something and just book it ASAP. plus the stress of looking for 2 couples.
few years ago had a hard and stressful time finding something for 4 people in late june. i do the research, run it by them and all happy. sometimes waiting for an answer from them the place got booked, back to looking again. drove me nuts, but finally found a houseboat in the jordaan area for more euros but at that point we all agreed to pay it.
hotels/rooms/apartments have skyrocketed in prices everywhere, many want to stay city center to walk and roam around and you pay the price. keep one post on this topic since you'll get same answers or many will not come back.
look at booking.com, book what's left and be done with it.

We had this problem one time in Milan so we flipped our dates to get away from Fashion Week. Why don’t you do that?

Booked a hotel great location, reviews on Booking.com, looked good but when I looked at Trip Advisor reviews several people put photos some major construction going on in front of the hotel. Here is what the hotel had to say, after I asked if they knew when it would be completed. There was no mention of it when I made the reservation.

"Thank you for reaching out to us. We appreciate your concern regarding the ongoing construction in the vicinity of our hotel.

Unfortunately, we do not have specific information about the timeline for the completion of the construction work. While we strive to provide our guests with a comfortable and enjoyable stay, we are unable to predict when the construction will be finished."

I have found in the US when you book a hotel if there is major construction going on they let you now, so you can make an informed decision. Is this not common in Europe?
