Can someone please recommend a moderately priced hotel in Amsterdam near the city center or subway. I would like to be close to attractions. Thank you.
You must mean the main train station Amsterdam Centraal and not the subway.
This is the one I would recommend

What is the difference between subway and train station. I thought they were the same....
Nope the subway (also referred to as the metro) is partly underground (like the Tube in London) and there is one in Amsterdam.
Coming from Chicago (having been to New York and DC) major tourist towns with subways, it would confuse me if a tourist asking for directions said subway when they meant train station. There could be a hotel next to a subway station.
The train station in Amsterdam serves the airport, regional, national, and international destinations.
The subway or metro just serves the city. T
That hotel recommended you can see it from the train station on the way from the airport so it is easy to find.
...be aware that the Ibis Centraal Station doesn't have AC.
A better more upscale option would be the Doubletree Hotel at the opposite end of the station.
Amsterdam is quite compact and the center of it very walkable, but it also has a very good system of trams You don't need to limit yourself to staying right near Centraal (which is the main train station) to get to the attractions. In fact, depending what sights you have on your list, you might be better off getting a hotel down around Museumplein or Leidseplein where many of the tram lines stop. Amsterdam can be quite expensive for lodging, particularly in the high season. In terms of Euro, what's "moderately priced" to you? You'll get better suggestions if you give more info. I'd recommend Conscious Hotels (they have several, but one is right near Museumplein), Hotel d'Amsterdam or The Times Hotel (pricier, but if you want to be on one of the main canals and you'd prefer to be closer to the 9 Streets or Jordaan areas, then it may be an option).
Thanks for your suggestions! I was thinking no more than $200 USD.
Hello! I stayed at the Park Inn by Radisson Amsterdam City West. It is very close (like 5 minutes walking? Much closer than what my google maps says! You can see the station when you walk down the driveway of the hotel!) to Sloterdijk Station. This is a bit west but Sloterdijk is a major station with many connections.
Good luck!
