Amsterdam hotel ideas

We need a room for four nights beginning April 22, our budget is as close to $100 per night as possible. Since that may be hard to find in central Amsterdam does anyone have suggestions for good neighborhoods outside the center?

What about staying in Haarlem and commuting into the city for the three days we will be there?

Proximity of the hotel to transit stations is important.

Riley, check out my review of the Alexander. It was €115 per night; breakfast was extra. The location is first rate. The rooms are small but clean, and the staff is great.

Edit to add: The coffee and tea are available (free) all day, and you're welcome to bring your own food into the breakfast area if you don't want to pay for their breakfast.

Thanks, Jane, but no luck at the Alexander.

Have been searching, but nothing found yet. Seems we'll have to go over budget. Since we're coming and going via Schiphol, we're going to look in that direction.

This is our first time in Amsterdam, so not yet familiar with the transit system. We need to be close to a stop, one of us has a minor walking issue.

Any area not more than a 15-20 minute trip from the center will do. We spend very little time at the hotel, we're not hard to please.

Thanks for any ideas.

April 22 is right in the middle of the absolute peak peak peak season for tulips. People start planning their stay during the tulip season year(s) in advance. All the cheap hotel rooms were booked months ago already. Finding a room close to $100 on this short notice is mission impossible, unless you’re willing to settle for a 1 or 2 star hotel.
Another option is to look at other cities than Amsterdam, Leiden or Haarlem for instance. Or even further away from the tulips, in Utrecht, The Hague or Delft.

hey hey Riley
as Dutch_travelers says "mission impossible" for $100 a night during peak peak tulip season, spring break. maybe look at a hostel for that price.
amsterdam is an expensive city to begin with, but you may find something. look outside of city, Haarlem may be not have much if any since people go there with it being "less". looking further out, you still have to pay for transportation, how close to train/tram are these places, up your budget, stay much further out, look for a BnB.
first time we went we stayed in an apartment on prinsengracht, second time we stayed in a houseboat down near the jordaan area.
much has changed since we were there 4 years ago with the pandemic. those sites i used are no longer around. good luck

I stayed at Hotel Clemens last September and it was terrific. Room was tiny but the staff is fantastic and breakfast was excellent. And location cannot be beat, right around the corner from Anne Frank House. Might have been a little more than 100 but not much and anything in the center is going to be a little pricey.

In October we stayed at The Times Hotel and that was heavenly, but about double the price.

NOTE: Eek. I checked Clemens for you but they have doubled their prices since I was there. Those days are immediately in advance of King's Days which might explain the demand some.

“ Those days are immediately in advance of King's Days which might explain the demand some.”

Kingsday is a one day event, most people that visit Amsterdam on Kingsday just visit for the day, so it doesn’t cause the huge demand and high prices you see for April 22.
What is making the hotel rates surge to crazy heights from mid April to the first week of May are three things; tulips, tulips and tulips!!
This year the now or never Vermeer exhibit is only making things worse and is causing the perfect storm for crazy eye-watering hotel rates.
