Amsterdam Hotel Help - Hotel Estherea vs Hoxton vs Tivoli Doelen

Hello- I am traveling to Amsterdam in August with my mum for sight seeing - first trip for her - i have been before. We would love to live by the Canals and cenral area. There for 3 nights. We like luxurious hotels, travel a lot. I have been doing a ton of research and stuck between these 3 hotels - all 3 are similar in pricing, first two are 4 stars, Tivoli is 5 star - but first two get rated much higher than Tivoli for some reason?

1) Hotel Estherea - looks charming, seems to be a good location - very over the top but also cute?

2) Hoxton - gets really good reviews from CN traveler etc - looks a bit more industrial but also very nice.

3) Tivoli Doelen - 5 star hotel, a little bit further from the other two hotels while still central. Old charm but reviews dont seem to be as good as the first two?

All the 3 rooms are similar sizes (small). I was initially leaning Hoxton - but now thinking Estherea might be more charming -but also wondering if for the same px i should book a 5 star that is Tivoli? I would really appreciate some help here.

Secondly - i am leaving a day before SAIL Amsterdam (August 20-24)- and can potentially extend my trip to stay August 20th there - is it worth it?

Thank you so much again.

You might want to consider the Pulitzer and Dylan Hotels in your search.

My Dutch friends always stay at the Estherea and we followed their advice. Highly recommend it!

I also replied on the other forum;)

My daughter and I stayed at the Estherea for almost a week about a year ago. Loved it!!! Yes, the decor is over the top but not obnoxious, if that makes sense. It was whimsical and elegant at the same time. The breakfast was excellent and my daughter found a promo code on their Instagram page that covered breakfast, which was a huge savings. Everything there was just perfect and if I go back, I would just book this hotel without considering others, we liked it that much. The staff here is who recommended Jack for a canal cruise, and that was a highlight for us. We ended up having a private cruise. It was heads above the big boat ones, and honestly they don't compare at all except they are on the water, lol.

I am curious as to why no one talks about Tivoli? its a 5 star, and cheaper than Hoxton/ Estheria. On the canal and look pretty nice. Is there something weird/ not nice about it that i am missing? Its $200 cheaper for my dates (combined for 3nights) - so almost wondering if i cancel estheria and book that instead. But literally have neven seen Tivoli in any of the articles for AMS.

What website are you checking for reviews? When I googled the 3 hotels I see the following scores on Google; Hotel Estherea 4.7/5, Hotel Tivoli 4.6/5 and Hoxton 4.5/5. So I don’t understand your statement that the other two hotels get rated much higher than Tivoli.

I’m sorry but I’m actually not sure I understand. In your opening post you stated twice that the Tivoli is rated worse than the other 2 hotels, but every source I check actually shows very similar ratings for the 3 hotels. In addition to that, there are more than 550 hotels in Amsterdam. Condé Nast and the likes can’t write about all of them, so it doesn’t have to mean anything that they don’t write about the hotel.
So I’m a bit puzzled as to what it is you’re worried about with regards to the Tivoli. The location is great and the reviews are good.

Edited to add; Condé Nast did in fact write about the Tivoli Hotel https://www.cntraveler.com/hotels/amsterdam/tivoli-doelen-amsterdam-hotel
