I just booked a ticket through blind booking and our destination we found out is Amsterdam. I have never been there and need suggestions of things to do from the 23rd to 26th of December. Does anyone also know about public transportation closures during Christmas time?
I don't believe the public transport will have any significant Christmas closure in Amsterdam (just as it does not in Seattle; London is a different story). See also our list of regular sightseeing highlights.
There won't be any hardships. All the major museums are actually open on Xmas day.
Feeling out of the loop on this one...what is "blind booking"? Do you get a great price on a ticket without knowing where you're going? How fun! How do you do this?
You should pick up Rick's travel book for Amsterdam. He has tons of suggestions. My husband and I are flying into Amsterdam Dec. 20 and leave Dec. 24. We plan to do the following...
Van Gogh Museum;
Rijksmuseum;
Dutch Resistance Museum;
Ann Frank House (It might be too late to pre-purchase tickets, but you can try online);
Red Light District Walking Tour;
Jordaan Walking Tour;
Canal tour (Rick says if you get on the 4:00 departure, you'll start with sunlight and end in darkness... best of both worlds);
Reypenear Cheese and Wine tasting (book via their website).
Here's a website that could be helpful to you for restaurant reviews and reservations: http://en.iens.nl/
Have a great time!
