Amsterdam during WorldPride

Hi everyone! I'm planning a trip to Europe this summer and was strongly considering Amsterdam. However, I would be there during the second week of WorldPride (August 2-6). I can't go later in August on this trip.

Is it a really bad idea to visit the city at the same time as this festival? I'm thinking purely from the perspective of crowds and things being potentially sold out. Any experiences with WorldPride or Pride in Amsterdam would be welcomed, or just thoughts on how this might add to an already busy tourist season.

I've been in and outside of Amsterdam on King's Day - I don't think you will find this as overwhelming. But it really depends on what you want to do. Decide if you can work around the schedule. Perhaps you might want to join in and offer support? We have always enjoyed meeting allies. My hubby and I would love to go the senior concert but will probably be too worn after 6 weeks of travel May-June.

Most hotels use dynamic pricing these days so you had better book soon. It could get expensive. This is a city that's been dealing with over tourism for years; this might not be a good time.

By luck, we were in Amsterdam for the Pride events in 2024 (missed the boat parade, though). What a FUN time to be there. A huge parade followed by Vondelpark being packed with music and other fun.

I really don't feel like anything was "too crowded" - ie we did all sorts of normal touristy things at the same time the Pride stuff was going on - visits to museums, our favorite restaurants, lots of bike rides, etc. - but we also got to enjoy the random Pride stuff we ran across.

I'd actually say the Pride event made the visit MORE memorable and gave it even more of a fun vibe, rather than any sort of negative.

The canal boat parade during Pride Amsterdam is one of busiest events in the whole country. 300,000 to 500,000 people attend the Canal Pride during a normal year, and with this year being World Pride they expect even more visitors.
If you realize that Amsterdam as a whole has just under 1 million inhabitants, it doesn’t need explaining that the Canal Pride on August 1, 2026 will have a huge impact on the city.
The crowds will be enormous, hotel prices will skyrocket and time slots for popular museums will sell out fast.
