Amsterdam - December (5 days)

We have 5 days after Xmas in Amsterdam. Of course we know of the big things to see like the Van Gogh and other big museums, Anne Frank House. Other recommendations? We are easy as we love nature, cathedrals, museums, eating, really just about anything. Definitely want to see beautiful things and get good pictures to cherish along with our memories. Also want to go to Brugge. Should we stay a night there or make a day trip out of it? I am thinking it will be gorgeous at night but not sure if should stay a night or if we can just take a train back to AMS late?

Why Brugge? It is a 3 to 3h30 train ride away, and you have a lot of small historical cities much closer to Amsterdam: Enkhuizen (my favourite), Hoorn, Haarlem, Leiden, Delft, all within a 1 hr range on direct trains.

If you want to go to Bruges, go!
Spend less time on the train by using the Thalys from Amsterdam to Antwerp.
Your travel time will be reduced by an hour.
You might spend 3 days on day trips to Haarlem, Delft, Enkhuizen or Hoorn.
Spend the other 2 days traveling to Bruges and consider stopping in Ghent, which is a fun town.
If you are interested in cathedrals, visit Sint Baaf's in Ghent and view the Adoration of the Lambs.
Stay at the Hotel Carlton near the train station. Breakfast is included and it is high;y recommended.
Bruges is a 30 minute ride from Ghent. The clock tower in the town square and the church of Our Lady in Bruges are good stops, as well as the chocolate shops.
Recommend taking advantage of the Thalys for your trip.
Enjoy!
