We booked tickets to the Van Gogh museum isung the city pass holders option because we planned to buy a city pass. However, all forums say the city pass doesn't include Van Gogh. What city pass is the Van Gogh museum accepting that let us book tickets for free. It just says show your pass when you arrive.
Here is the link Van Gogh museum's FAQs. https://www.vangoghmuseum.nl/en/visit/frequently-asked-questions#discount-cards
This indicates that the City Pass does include Van Gogh https://www.amsterdam.nl/stadspas/stadspasacties/anselm-kiefer-gogh-stedelijk-museum/
If you were able to book a confirmed visit time, you should be good to go. Van Gogh requiires online booking in advance for all visitors.
Fantastic musuem. One of my all-time favorites.
Thank you for the information. However, it doesn't really answer my question. What city pass is the museum website allowing me to book for free with?
The Van Gogh museum normally accepts these passes according to the ticketing page:
Museumkaart: € 10
Vincent's Friends: free
VriendenLoterij VIP-KAART: free
ICOM card: free
Rembrandt card: free
Stadspass holders: free
The link provided above to the Stedelijk museum is a tad bit misleading because there is a special, limited duration dual museum exhibition at the Van Gogh and Stedelijk, only on until June 9. One ticket (at a higher price than usual) gets you in both museums. Though the Van Gogh museum doesn't usually accept any city passes, though I see on the ticketing page that is listed as an option. I think your best bet is to contact the Van Gogh museum directly to ask. It would be a shame to arrive and find out you don't have the right supporting documentation for your visit.
Yes, that is my concern. I did send 2 emails to the museum but have not received a reply. Thank you

Given the special dual museum exhibit, they may simply be overwhelmed with inquiries. This may be a situation that merits a phone call. Here's the number: (020) 570 52 00 (I believe the country code for Netherlands is +31). Or perhaps one of our local Dutch forum members will be able to weigh in when they hit daylight hours.
The Stadspas, which translates as Citypass in English, is a special pass for residents of Amsterdam with a very low income. This pass allows them to visit museums etc for free. You can’t buy this pass, if you’re a resident of the city of Amsterdam and your income is low enough for you to qualify, you get the pass for free.
Tourists can buy the Amsterdam City Card. This Card allows them free entry into several museums and sights. The Van Gogh museum however does not participate in the Amsterdam City Card.
So in short, you got a free ticket that you do not qualify for. The best thing to do would be to buy a ticket to the Van Gogh museum.
Thank you! I thought that may be the case but I could not find anything online confirming it's a residence only pass. I will order new tickets.
Not only is the Stadspas a residence only pass, it’s a pass for only those with a low income.
Thank you for doing the right thing by buying a regular ticket and not attempting to game the system by trying to get in with a ticket you as a tourist don’t qualify for.
Of course, I'm not flying all the way over to Amsterdam then trying to scam an entrance fee to a museum. That's why I posted the question in the first place.
