The first thing we always do is to ask the cruise company for their recommendations and more importantly - exactly where will the ship be docked. There is taxi stand at the train station. And there are some docks within walking distance of the station. But you need to know where you ship will be. We walked but only had carry-on size luggage.

Yes, it is possible to walk. It's a short walk (~7 minutes) that may feel long, depending on how much luggage you have.

Google Maps estimates an 11-minute walk. I've wandered along the waterfront there recently and found the walkways a little chopped up by the rail tracks but certainly it is possible, weather permitting. Google the maps site and type in Amsterdam Centraal (correct spelling), then use the Directions function for "cruise terminal" .

By the time you settled into a cab you're already at the cruise terminal . No need for a taxi unless you have lots of luggage that's too much to pull to the terminal . I travel with a carry-on and fairly large shoulder bag and it was no problem . Cruise ships have laundry services , some even have Laundromats . Check your ship's amenities to see if they have that so you can pack really light .
