Looking for hotel/B&B suggestions in the canal district with character, smaller, boutiquey, not modern, with charm at a reasonable price.
Thanks
Jerry
Look at Hotel Estherea - my absolute favorite in Amsterdam. It sits right on the Singel Canal and it's in a great location to walk to the Nine Streets area, the Anne Frank House, etc.
I've heard good things about 't Hotel also, but have never stayed there.
I agree, look at the Estherea. My daughter and I stayed there in February 2024 and absolutely loved it! The location was great in that it was very quiet, yet right on a canal and it was easy to walk everywhere. We never needed the tram, and I was 3 months post op from a knee replacement. Pricing of course is person as to whether it is reasonable or not. For us it was, and we had a promo we found on their Instagram page that included breakfast. That alone made it cheaper than other hotels we were looking at.
We loved our stays at two of the bridge houses that form Sweets Hotel. https://sweetshotel.amsterdam
These are tiny homes that were once occupied by bridge keepers, so they are all on canals. Prices vary, depending on size and location. We loved that they are unique to Amsterdam and part of the city's history.
We stayed at Hotel Sebastians last September. Our room had a couple steps down to a nook with seating and floor to ceiling windows overlooking a canal (a bit scary because the windows opened and we were on the 3rd floor). The cost for 2 nights was 437 Euros.
We stayed at Sebastians also in May. The staff were friendly and accommodated an earlier breakfast time so we could make our 9am museum tickets with plenty of time. The only caveat: the room was very small with barely enough room to walk around the bed.
