We are spending about 24 hours in Amsterdam this summer and I would like to take a canal cruise and am hopeful I could combine this with dinner. It would need to be family friendly as we are traveling with children. Thanks in advance for any recommendations!
The canal cruises I’ve done in Amsterdam have been about 45 minutes so not really sure I’d want to spend time trying to eat on one. I’d just find one when everyone is pooped and needs a rest.
There are several dinner cruises available, but I don’t recommend doing that. Especially not with kids. The canals in Amsterdam are relatively small, so the boats used for the canal cruises are small too. As you can imagine there isn’t a lot of kitchen space on a small boats, which hugely restricts what they can serve you. Think microwaved pizzas or cheese&wine.
If I were you, I would take a proper canal cruise followed or preceded by a meal. Perhaps pancakes? The Dutch pancakes are completely different from the pancakes you know from the USA and/or France. Your kids will love them!
Jewel Cruises is the best dinner cruise hands down. It lasts nearly three hours with a high quality fine dining experience and full bar. Book early as soon as you know the date you want to go. However it is not family friendly as it is an adults-only cruise.

We did the Jewel cruise in Amsterdam; the boat is beautiful and the meal was fabulous. I highly recommend.
