Amsterdam and France in August

Hello,

Am planning to be in Amsterdam on Monday , August 22. We are anxious to visit Anne Franks House and the Van Gogh Museums. I am concerned they might be closed on a Monday. Any advice please?

Also, what is the fastest way to get from Amsterdam to Paris?

I have always thought to avoid travel to Europe in August as that is height of Euorpean tourists traveling. We can change our plans to September but air fares are so much more expensive. Any thoughts?

Many thanks in advance!

For Amsterdam to Paris the fastest is Thalys, the high speed train. Thalys.com Book as early as you can for the best price.

Anne Frank is open Mondays. Van Gogh closed. Here's a tip... for mundane questions like opening times open Google Maps and type in what you're looking for. Click the icon. A left menu appears with all the info you need.

I have taken the Thalys train from Amsterdam to Paris. It arrives at Gare de Nord station in Paris from where you will need transportation to your hotel by Metropolitan subway or taxi.

Train is the only way we've traveled between the two (and most everywhere in Europe)---takes too long to bother with flying. We have been there in August (Italy, France, Netherlands, Belgium & Greece) twice, and except for a few restaurants being closed so owners can take their own vacations, I honestly didn't see any change from when we've visited in May or September. I know those who live there may have a different opinion, but I prefer to travel when it's warm (heat doesn't bother me, I live in Florida) as my clothes are smaller and thinner to pack in my carryon luggage!

Are you saying you want to go from Amsterdam to CDG, or are you spending time in Paris before departing from CDG?

An even better tip is to check the official website of the institute in question. If you check the website of the Van Gogh museum, you will see that the museum is open 7 days a week. It’s not closed on Monday, never has been as far as I can remember. Opening hours depend on the day of the week and time of year. See here for all details: https://www.vangoghmuseum.nl/en/visit/address-and-opening-hours#address

The Anne Frank house is also open 7 days a week. Opening times also vary depend on the specific day of the week and time of year. Again see the official website of the Anne Frank house for all details; https://www.annefrank.org/en/museum/tickets/
