I am looking at an AirBnb apartment that is just on the northwestern edge of the Red Light district, just south of the train station. It is a great location but I worry about late night noise from the pedestrian street below. Any idea if this is going to be a problem?
Unless that apartment has some good noise insulation, you can expect noisy crowds well into the night.
It might depend on what time of year your a going to visit. We stayed at Mauro Mansion in December. It sounds very close to where you describe. We were in a room facing the street and we weren't bothered by any noise. It was just far enough away from the hustle and bustle of the bars, etc.

Andre makes a good point about insulation. If the windows aren't double-glazed, you'll hear every street noise. In October I stayed at a hotel on the Singel Canal in a room 4 floors up, and heard people talking, luggage wheels rolling, bike bells jinging, etc. i wore earplugs at night which helped. Can you find out if the windows are double-glazed?
I stayed in Dam Square for a weekend in June and found that if you don't open your hotel windows you won't hear anything for the most part. We happened to open them late around 2 am to see people walking around dropping bottles and such, but once we shut them - no problem! I stayed on the second floor of the NH Hotel in Dam Square and I would totally recommend it. The rooms were very spacious and had a very central location .
