my wife and I are looking to spend a week in Amsterdam in April and we would like to stay in the city center. What are your recommendations for accommodations at a reasonable price but are still nice? Steve
At this late date, I doubt if there's anything reasonable left. Cameron Hewitt quoted $400 a nite for a moderate room, and that was before the NL increased the nightly tax. As Amsterdam is severely limiting the shared Airbnb- type lodging, hotel demand is high. I would suggest staying in Haarlem, but then again, it's tulip time, and available there will also be low. Check booking.com, then book directly.
Have a great trip!
hey hey keyfish
do you mean in couple months 2026?
if so you are so so late with it being tulip season!
like everyone else asks, what does reasonable mean in euros per nght? Amsterdam is an expensive place with many other big cities getting there or have skyrocketed already. open up your wallet. been twice and it's gorgeous, busy, crowded with people & bikes everywhere. good luck and enjoy

Not sure what's a reasonable price to you, but I just did a sample inquiry for April 12-18 at Sweets Hotel, and there were several units available.
Sweets Hotel isn't a typical hotel. It's a collection of bridge houses that have been turned into independent hotel units. Bridge houses are where the bridgekeepers used to live, so they are a slice of historic Amsterdam.
If you want a traditional hotel with a front desk, bellpersons, and a concierge, then these won't be for you, but we absolutely loved our stays at two of the houses.
Sweets is on my bucket list for Amsterdam. At this point, you might want to take a look and see what's available first, then search the forum for reviews. There are LOTS of AMS hotel reviews on this site.
