I'm planning to be in Amsterdam in September and need help on lodging. Prefer near canal and smaller boutique hotel

www.booking.com is your friend....I think the company's even based in Holland. I'm sure you can find a nice choice at that price level (maybe even a barge hotel right on the canal)

We loved Hotel Fita and will be staying there again this June.
Not on a canal- but it is a boutique hotel, wonderful/helpful staff, excellent bkft and very well located near Museumplein. Tram stops and airport bus just around the corner.

Hope your trip isn't between Sept 8-13. This is when Amsterdam hosts the International Broadcasting convention. It's one of the the largest conventions in the world, and hotel rates will be sky high:(

I know they book up early so I think you were lucky to find availability.
Be sure to have their delicious pancakes fro breakfast!

Sorry I didn't see this sooner, but if you are interested in another option, check out Bij Tijn op de Gracht. It's a fabulous canal house on Prinsengracht canal (9 Little Streets area) with a wall of windows & French balcony overlooking canal. Just two suites, one per floor. Gorgeous huge bathroom. Fabulous made-to- order breakfast. Books well in advance but worth looking into.
