We will be flying into AMS late day and spending the night. I would like to stay at AMS hotel and train into Amsterdam the next day. We would then return to our hotel for early flight out back to US. I would appreciate recommendations for a hotel that will accommodate this plan easily: we will be end-of-the-trip tired! We typically stay in mid-range hotels when we travel . TYIA
There are very few hotels within walking-with-luggage-distance from the airport and I’m afraid none of them can be considered “mid-range”.
So something has to give; budget or location.
I suggest looking at hotels near the Sloterdijk train station. It is midway on the main line between Centraal and the airport, about 10-15 minutes to the airport, less into central Amsterdam. There are a number of chain hotels, a Holiday Inn Express, a Mercure, a Radisson option, about a dozen in all.
The train station is right under the terminal, so it is often quicker than a cab or a shuttle.
There are 3 hotels in the airport. A Citizen M is closest to the train station, then a Sheraton, and then a Hilton at the very end of the hall. My son and I stayed at the Hilton because the Citizen M only has 1 bed rooms.
I've done this twice. Once, I stayed at an airport hotel (Hotwire) which had an airport shuttle. I took the train from Schiphol into Amsterdam and back. The other time, I got a hotel close to Centraal Station, and this let me stay out later in Amsterdam, since it was easy to walk around and back to the hotel. The only downside was getting up early to catch my flight back to the US. But it really wasn't that early and it worked out fine. I think, doing it again, I'd choose this option vs. the airport hotel again. (Granted, I'm frugal so paying for one of the hotels in the terminal at Schiphol is probably out of my budget.) The Hotwire hotel near the airport was really cheap but the hotel shuttle was a bit if a pain.
Thanks for all the great options! I can always count on RS travelers!
How easy is it to get the the CitizensM from the terminal?

If I understand your question, all 3 hotels are in the terminal.
LizinPA, yes you understood and thank you! Going to book my hotel today!
There seems to be some misunderstanding. Neither the Citizen M nor the Hilton are located inside the airport terminal. They are both a 5 minute walk away from the entrance of the airport.
The Sheraton technically isn’t located inside the terminal either, but this hotel can be reached via a covered walkway so it gives the impression it’s inside the terminal.
Maybe not in the actual terminal, but you can walk, and stay inside. Not sure what else you would call that.
The Sheraton can indeed be reached by a covered walkway. This isn’t true for the Hilton and the Citizen M. They are both located outside the airport terminal and require a non-covered walk.
