Amadeus Hotel in Haarlem?

Has anyone stayed at the Amadeus? We're book on the 21 Day BOE next spring, and the tour group is staying at the Ambassador City Centre. We're planning to go 4 days early to re-discover Haarlem.

Both hotels are about the same price, but the City Centre charges €12.50 for breakfast (until the tour starts); breakfast is included at the Amadeus. They're both in the same neighborhood.

Any thoughts?

We have stayed in Amadeus twice. The rooms are small but adequate. Over a restaurant facing the square. It is few minutes walk to the train station. Several nice restaurants including fries and ice cream in the area. We like the location.

Thanks, Frank. "Small but adequate" pretty well describes the rooms at City Centre, as well. I'll probably go ahead and book at Amadeus; it's just down the square from the tour hotel.

There is a looooonnnnggg flight of stairs to the reception area right next to the restaurant entrance. However, you can walk to the back of the restaurant and on the left is a small elevator that will take you up to the hotel. Generally there is a lot of activity in the square. On the north side of square opposite the hotel is a nice restaurant with many outside tables. Often after a long day in Amsterdam (or elsewhere) we would enjoy a beer watching the activity in the square. The food was good. The ice cream shop is one of the business attached to the church on the square. Follow your nose to the f fry stand.

Two stories - straight up - no resting. All the ground level is occupied by various business - several restaurants and shops.

Hmmmmm. Not too bad, but I'm still looking.

I've stayed at the Amadeus several times; small but adequate describes the single I've had. You can always take the elevator from the restaurant, unless it's late at night. I'm staying 2 nights in mid-September and looking forward to it. Last year I arrived at 11:45 pm and had to leave next morning at 5 a.m. but Mike took care of everything on the phone. The bus from Schiphol is the easiest.

A couple years ago, there were 2 ladies having breakfast there because their hotel (pre-tour) charged so much. I had a nice chat with them about their tour; my H and I took the 21 day BOE in 2003.

I've booked us for three nights at the Amadeus pre-tour. There was a bit of a problem with our credit card; I didn't realize (naïve, I guess) that when you gave your CC number to reserve the room, the hotel actually does a "pre-authorization charge" so I didn't warn my bank to expect a European charge. It took three emails to and from Mike and one phone call to the bank to get it okayed.

I've never had that happen before; we always give a credit card number to secure the room, and it's never been questioned. Huh. Now I know, and I pass the tip on to you.
