This will be our first trip abroad. We will be spending 2 weeks in Ireland visiting our daughter who is studying abroad. We are looking to spend a weekend in Amsterdam on a budget. Can anyone recommend an Airbnb or reasonable hotel outside of Amsterdam near public transit to get into City center? Thanks

when are you planning this trip and what is your budget in euros?
amsterdam is a busy city and expensive, been twice. it's very pretty with lots of things to do and see.

If you can commit to a non-refundable advance booking and go about 5 to 10 Euro more per night on your budget, both The Tire Station and Conscious Hotel Vondelpark have double rooms pretty close to what you want to spend without having to go way outside of Amsterdam. From there, you'd be just a mile and a quarter walk through Vondelpark to get to Musuemplein and you'd have a couple different tram routes running right near either hotel (they both also have hotel bikes on-site that you can rent if you are interested - just be sure to lock up your bike very carefully when you are riding around the city). Sign up for their membership (free) and you get 5% off bookings, early check-in (if available), late check-out and they have wine hour every evening.
An older but nice family-run hotel that is even closer to the center (about 3-5 minute walk to Leidseplein and about a 10-15 minute walk to Museumplein) is Hotel d'Amsterdam which is definitely in your price range, particularly if you are willing to lock in on a non-refundable advance rate. Plenty of transit and dining options around this one.
Bonus is all 3 of these hotels have an elevator so you avoid having to lug your bags up the notoriously steep stairs in many older Amsterdam hotels and Airbnb rentals.

We are staying in a B & B in the Museumplein this fall. It was recommended on this Forum. The rates start at € 125- 160 depending on season, how many nights... www.the-collector.nl. or email, karel@the-collector.nl. We were looking for a location that was walking distance to the museums, and other major attractions.
