Air BnB Recommendations Central Amsterdam

My husband and I will be traveling to Amsterdam and will be staying for less than 2 weeks and I'm thinking an Air BnB would be more comfortable and give us more space for this travel time. Has anyone stayed in one that they would recommend? Thought more economical than staying in a hotel. We want to be able to walk to transportation and the heart of the City since we will be visiting museums, doing day trips and walking to restaurants. Thanks so much.

Amsterdam is attempting to limit the Air Bnb type accommodations, in addition to limiting the growth of hotels. I'm not sure when the regs go into effect. On Cameron Hewitt's recent Blog post here, he quoted $400 as the price for a moderate, mediocre room, so accommodations are expensive and prices most likely going up.

We stayed in Haarlem and loved it, and easily commuted into Amsterdam each day. Leiden is another wonderful city that is easily accessible to Amsterdam. Leiden and Haarlem are both charming, with windmills and canals, but without the crowds. We loved being in both these cities, and will return.

Enjoy this beautiful country. Safe travels!

We stayed in one in the Jordaan in March, booked via VRBO. Not in the city center, but very accessible to anything we needed either on foot or via tram, and quiet too, because it was very residential. Our hosts (who were lovely!) live on the ground floor of the building and the rental is on the second floor.

If we had not found this VRBO, we would have happily stayed in Haarlem, or on the other side of the river Ij. You can easily get into the city from Haarlem on the train, or across the river via a (I think free) ferry.

My guess is that Mr. Hewitt is talking about the price for a hotel room during the peak of the tulip season in the second half of April, otherwise this statement is a bit of an exaggeration. A quick look on hotel websites like booking.com confirms this and it’s also what the yearly study carried out by Horwath shows. In their Hostarapport over 2023 they state that the average price for a hotel room in Amsterdam was €189. It is true that Amsterdam is much more expensive than other parts of the country, because the average price for a hotel room outside of Amsterdam was €116 per night in 2023.

Short stay apartment rental via platforms like Airbnb and VRBO is strictly regulated in Amsterdam. Owners must register with the city authorities and are only allowed to rent out their property for a maximum of 30 days per year and have a maximum capacity of 4 guests.
Platforms like Airbnb and VRBO claim they only list legal rentals, but research done last week by one of the Dutch newspapers showed that this isn’t true. They found many illegal listings that weren’t registered with the city authorities. But what’s worse is that they also found lots of listings that were clearly fraudulent. They found for instance, that two completely different apartments in different parts of the city were advertised with the exact same photos.

I totally get why an apartment is more comfortable if you plan to stay for more than 1 week, but I would advise you to look for official serviced apartments offered by Yays for instance https://yays.com/cities/amsterdam/

Had a very pleasant stay at Yays Maritime. Nothing fancy but it was clean, safe, and convenient for transportation to Central Station, Jordaan, and the museums. I’d stay there again.

Great pizza near there at the Pizza Vagabond, run by Italians.

We stayed at two of the Sweets Hotel locations. They are sort of a cross between a hotel and an Air BnB.

These are bridge houses that were once occupied by the bridge operators. They are very small for houses, but are located on canals, and have a microwave, kettle, mini-fridge, small sink, a few dishes and cutlery items, and some sort of table to eat at. (They are all different.) There are a couple with kitchenettes.

Not only that, they are unique and historic.

G3rryCee, that link is no longer valid. It's possible that that AirBnB is no longer available, maybe no longer legal with the crackdown in Amsterdam. Do you have the name of the place?

I deleted my comment, as it appears that place isn't available anymore.

Thank you to everyone who posted. I think at this time we will just stay at a hotel.
Appreciate your comments.
