Advice on the Utrecht/Arnhem/Kroller-Muller Museum part of my trip

I'm planning the Netherlands part of a trip to Europe for June 2025. We will have 11 or 12 nights in the Netherlands. I will be with my husband and adult daughter. We are interested in most things, including history, architecture, art, nature, and my husband loves trains.

A rough itinerary is:

3-4 nights Delft (to see Delft, Kinderdijk & Rotterdam, and perhaps a half day to The Hague or Leiden)
3-4 nights for Utrecht or split between Utrecht and Otterlo or Arnhem
5 nights Amsterdam

My question is about the best way to see: 1) Utrecht itself plus a day trip to 's-Hertogenbosch, 2) the Open Air and Airborne Museums in Arnhem, and 3) the Kroller-Muller Museum and Hoge Veluwe National Park. Two options follow, but I'm open to other options. I originally planned for Option A, which is easier in some ways, but the travel time from Utrecht to Otterlo is longer than the hour each way that I'd prefer for day trips, and it might be nice to spend some nights in a quieter setting near the national park.

Option A: Spend four nights in Utrecht

Day/Night 1: Arrive in Utrecht by about 10 am, drop off luggage, and do RS walking tour and visit the train museum

Day/Night 2: Day trip to Arnhem and visit the Open Air Museum until about 2:00 and then either just my husband or all three of us head to the Airborne Museum Hartenstein

Day/Night 3: Day trip to Otterlo and visit the Kroller-Muller Museum and Hoge Veluwe National Park

Day/Night 4: Day trip to 's-Hertogenbosch

Option B: Split the stay into 2 nights in Otterlo and 2 nights in Utrecht

Day 1: Train and bus from Delft to Arnhem, leave luggage at train station, visit the Open Air Museum and Airborne Museum, and then bus to Otterlo. Spend the night in Otterlo.

Day 2: Full day to explore the Kroller-Muller Museum and Hoge Veluwe National Park. This seems like it would be a relaxing day.

Day 3: Transfer to Utrecht, drop off luggage, and do RS walking tour and visit the train museum. Spend the night in Utrecht.

Day/Night 4: Day trip to 's-Hertogenbosch. Spend the night in Utrecht.

If you have visited all of these sights, please comment on which option makes the most sense, or suggest a variation. I would also like to know if it's safe to leave our luggage, including a cpap machine, in a locker in Arnhem if we do something like Option B.

Thank you for your advice.

We have indeed visited all these places, though not in the same trip. When we visited the K-M we spent two nights in Otterlo, traveling from Amsterdam by train and bus. We stayed at the very nice Hotel de Sterrenberg. We traveled to Otterlo, checked in, spent that day at the K-M and rode free bikes around the national park, returning to the hotel that night. The next morning, we took the convenient bus near the hotel to Arnhem to visit the Open Air and returned again to the hotel that evening. There are limited but not especially exciting restaurants in Otterlo for dinner, we walked to town and ate somewhere. Dinner was offered in the hotel but not in our price range. We took the bus to Arnhem the next day and continued by train to our next destination, Berlin. I can’t help at all about services available at Arnhem station. It was easy and relaxing spending our nights in Otterlo and we were happy to have decided on that itinerary. The Sterrenberg is modern, comfortable, and provided a nice breakfast. The helpful staff advised us of the bus timetables and sold us the tickets. When we missed our stop arriving at the hotel, the kind bus driver made a U turn and dropped is at the hotel door..talk about service! Utrecht is worth its own time and day trips are very easy owing to the many train departures to many destinations. We recently traveled from Utrecht to den Bosch and also to Deventer and to Dordrecht for day trips and it was nice. We had spent a few nights in Utrecht on a previous trip. On our most recent trip this spring we stayed at the Hampton By Hilton Utrecht Centraal Station solely for its convenience to the stations as this trip was dedicated to various day trips out of Utrecht. Very pleasant stay, very nice breakfast, staff and super easy access to trains. I’m sorry if this rambles ..it’s the way my mind is ordered in my dotage. Safe travels,

Thanks, Denny. This is likely our only trip to the Netherlands, so I'm trying to balance seeing as much as we can without overdoing it.

We rented a car in 2012. Here is our itinerary (not our first visit to Amsterdam ... ). It was a huge mistake to return the car inside the city of Amsterdam, despite experience in Antwerp and other medieval street plans. Because the itinerary does not have the Aalsmeer Flower Auction, we must have done that on another trip.

Do you know to dress for riding a simple, touring (free) bicycle on the Kroller-Muller day? The park is, on a nice day, a very attractive visit, worth a few hours, and even lunch. I don't know how one gets to the Airborne Museum. In Utrecht, I would see if I could reserve the English tour (tour only) for the Musical Instrument Automaton Museum, a popular and unique collection. https://www.museumspeelklok.nl/en/
