Accommodation recommendation in/near Amsterdam?

We (myself and my teen daughters) will be making our first trip to Amsterdam for 4 nights in June. I admit, I am a bit overwhelmed trying to find accommodation even after reading Rick's book and searching the forum. I have already done searches on booking.com, airbnb, and homeaway/vrbo and am having a lot of trouble narrowing down on what makes sense for us.

I am looking for your recommendations/suggestions. I was reading on the forum about the law change for short-term rentals and that seems to have impacted our ability to find affordable lodging.

Our criteria:
needs to sleep at least 3
kitchen or kitchenette (due to severe food allergies (strictly gluten-free) we prefer to cook for ourselves when possible)
easy walking distance to a grocery store for food purchases
laundry facilities on site or very nearby (this is actually just as important as the kitchen)
easy access to public transportation
family appropriate location

We have no mobility challenges, so stairs are not a problem. I don't mind staying out of the central area as along as there is quick, easy, public transport to the major sites and museums. I would rather not travel more than about 20 minutes one way. We will be arriving by plane and leaving by cruise ship, so easy transport to both of those locations would also be ideal.

Like everyone, we want the best deal possible. I am really trying to keep it at or below $150 usd a night, but will go higher for the right place. I really cannot go over $250 usd per night.

Thanks in advance for any recommendations you have.

PS We are completely open to staying someplace such as Haarlem. We just are looking for specific recommendations on where.

My experience in Amsterdam was at a hotel without a kitchen, so I can't suggest that one. I did do a little experiment and go to hotels.com and clicked on the box "amenities" in the search column. I was able to then pick " kitchen" and it brought up a list of hotels with kitchens. This might at least give you some ideas to start. Have a wonderful trip.

You should do a Google search for Citymundo Amsterdam. They rent apartment and houseboats. They have been very responsive to email inquiries. But they do book up fast. I also did Tripadvisor apartment searches and liked being able to communicate directly with the apartment owners.

I just booked a two bedroom apartment that’s part of a canal house in Amsterdam. We’re using Citymundo which I heard about here. I think it would tick most of your boxes. It would be about $200/night for you though. There is some availability for this apartment toward the end of June. Private message me if you’re interested knowing the specific listing. There are less expensive options on the website. However, I liked this one because there are two separate bedrooms, a back garden area and views from the sitting room to the Herengracht Canal. Also, the owner lives upstairs, so is accessible if needed. There are a couple of little quirks and I do worry about it being one of the rentals caught in the city crackdown, but we decided to give it a go after seeing the high hotel rates in the city and seeing how cute this rental is.

Thank you for the suggestions. I have never used Citymundo before. That does look like a good option. I did also check hotels.com. I like that you can search for a kitchen, but they do not have an option to search for a washing machine.

One interesting thing I have discovered - when searching on Homeaway you can include washing machine as a filter item. When searching on VRBO you cannot. They are the same company. One would think the search functions would be the same. . .

I have booked canal houses and houseboats through Citymundo as well and was very happy with them. We once left something behind and they worked with the landlord to find it and ship it to us; that has to be annoying and we were very grateful that they went out of their way to assist us.

Note that Canal houses have incredibly scary steep stairs, so pay attention to the apartment descriptions if that might be an issue. We were able to rent a whole houseboat twice and that was fabulous; many of the houseboat rentals are for rooms or apartment on a larger boat. It is a wonderful experience.

Thank you, Janet. I appreciate all the recommendations for Citymundo. It looks like a service I should try this time around.
