Accessible Amsterdam hotel for under 90 euros per night?

I am planning a trip to Amsterdam several months in advance, but just wanted some recommendations. I know Amsterdam is an expensive city for lodging, and unfortunately I suffer from severe fear of heights and a dodgy hip joint. Can anyone recommend a hotel for under 90 euros per night which has either a reliable lift or "international"-style stairs, i.e. not traditional Dutch stairs that are like a ladder with the steps filled in?

Philip,

you dont say when you are going to be there and if you want to be in the city proper.

but if you care to check out citizen m. Its a newish chain? They have a building at Schiphol and near down town Amsterdam. If i remember correctly, Tram #2 stops around the corner from the building and there is a train stop from the Airport nearby too. They do have several floors with modern lifts and the rooms have big picture windows from wall to wall and bed to ceiling, but you can drop the shades by remote.

I stayed there once and thought it was cool. They are cookie cutter rooms and only have a toilet and shower. By the way, both are in pods.

i think at one time they had pics on their web site.

happy trails.

How dodgy is the hip? When I was last there I rented a room on a houseboat. There was about 5 steps down to the boat and three steps down into the boat. The room was small by US standards, but had a comfortable couch/hide-a-bed, kitchenette and bathroom with shower for around $161 a night. The landlord stocks the mini fridge with eggs, cheese and wine. The room is very clean. It's located in the Jordaan area and is an easy walk to most things- about 10 minutes from the Anne Frank house. The room has a large corner picture window with a lovely view of the canal. I was so impressed by it the first time I stayed there, that I've already booked it for April, pre my RS tour. If you're interested, just PM me for more details. Perhaps that more money or stairs than you want to deal with...

Do you ever use Priceline? We carefully bid in the area we desired and got a room for $100 at the NH Doelen. The hotel was formerly part of the Tulip chain and ideally located on Doelenstraat near the Amstel. It has an elevator and the room was comfortable with an updated bathroom. The staff was great and you can walk to many sights or use the tram which was a block away. Would not hesitate to stay there again. If you are hesitant to use PL you can contact the hotel or try Booking or Hotels.com, etc. Hope you have a great trip--we love A'dam.
