According to the big apple Times it's a dinosaur headed for extinction:
Michael,
Thank you for posting this news.
I'm shocked, but technology continues to change the world.
I played The New York Times video for my husband, because visiting the Auction early in the a.m. and seeing all the carts buzzing around was one of the highlights of our trip to the Netherlands. Keukenhoff (I could have spent days there) was still my favorite place to visit, but Aalsmeer was a close second.
It will be interesting to see how the flower auction continues to morph and stay relevant. I have a feeling they will figure out a way to adapt and continue to be a major center of influence. I never under-estimate the Dutch :)
I'm sure glad we visited when we did (a few years ago).
Michael,
That's interesting and also unfortunate news. I really enjoyed my visit to the Aalsmeer Flower Auction, and the day I was there all of the trading desks were occupied. At that time, I never would have imagined that it could ever change.
Margaret, thanks for the encouragement. :) I think they are already looking for solutions like this man from Utrecht, who is selling sand to ........................................................................................the Middle East!? http://www.utrechtcentral.com/featured/soil-expert-utrecht-sells-300-containers-sand-qatari-sheikhs-10057/
