Is there anything to do if you have a 5 hour layover, rather than 10 as mentioned in a previous post? We arrive at 9am and leave to Barcelona at 2 pm on a Friday. Is there anything to do at or near the airport? Is there anyplace decent to get regional cuisine at the airport? Thanks.

I am Belgian. So we do know that Dutch food is not at all nice.
There are, though, very nice restaurants in Amsterdam but they are expensive. With 5 hours, I would take two hours to get a glimpse of the city centre which is indeed lovely, then go back to the airport.
Go to a bar and have a nice Heineken beer.

The train going thru Schiphol can get you downtown in maybe 15 minutes. Just leave enough time to get back through security.
For street food, we like the paper cones filled with french fries and the soft serve ice cream in food-a-mats. The ice cream tastes like straight cream.
