4 days in Amsterdam.

Hello
We will be travelling to Amsterdam/Belgium for a total of 7 days on the ground.
We will be flying into amsterdam on Aug 6, travelling to Brussels that afternoon, we land around 1130 am.
I hope to spend 3 days in Brussels, returning to Amsterdam on the 4th day.
Please suggest good neighbourhoods in Amsterdam or is it better to stay in zandaam/utreth and doing day trips?
I am thinking 2 days in Amsterdam and 2 day trips to Zandaam and maybe Giethoorn. Is this worth or maybe Delft, Please let me know other suggestions. Are Delft/the Hague or Gouda close enought to do a day trip?

TIA

Delft and Gouda are definitely worth visiting. It would be best to stay in Rotterdam (worth visiting as well) for that. You can also easily visit Dordrecht (with a return on a boat bus and a stop at Kinderdijk) from Rotterdam. Perhaps take the train back from Brussels to Rotterdam for a night or two, then up to Amsterdam. An option for visiting Amsterdam: there are hotels at Schiphol, which is a quick train ride up to Amsterdam and points north for day trips, and you'll be at the airport when it's time for the flight home.

You really need to think about what you want to see in Amsterdam. Two days is not a lot of time for the major attractions (Anne Frank, Van Gogh, Rijks, canal tour), let alone the best part of any visit--walking around the canals. There are loads of hotel and restaurant recommendations on this site for Amsterdam. I can't imagine staying at the airport other than for a last night with a pre-dawn departure. Even then, ugh.

Last week we returned home after 4 nights in Amsterdam. I had factored in a day trip to Haarlem but we ended up just staying in Amsterdam to experience more of its ambiance and sights.
