I will be in Amsterdam in mid April and want to purchase a 4 day unlimited pass (I think that covers buses as well?). I went to the gvb.nl website and it looked like they might be discontinuing paper tickets as of mid March? Does anyone know anything about this? Also, I wasn't sure if that pass will get me from Amsterdam central to Keukenhof Gardens (looks like a bus to Schiphol then a separate bus to Leiden?

You should consider a Tripkey pass instead. It links to your American credit card and is good for all trams, trains, and buses in the entire country. The only hassle is that you have to pick it up in person, but there's a pickup point at the Hertz desk at the airport, so it's not a big problem.
