I think I read that the bus and train stations are beneath the airport. Is that correct? Any advice or suggestions for finding the bus 300 to get to our hotel in Haarlem?

The 300 bus is on the ground floor (same level as Arrivals). The trains are beneath the airport. Follow the taxi or bus signs overhead or the yellow taxi "arrows" on the floor to outside the Schiphol Plaza. Cross the street to platform B8-B10 (the second platform and then to right of the pedestrian crossing) to take the red 300 bus in the direction of Haarlem.
